What pregnancy week 14 means
Second trimester begins. “14 weeks pregnant” means 14 weeks have passed since the first day of the last menstrual period — the standard way pregnancy is dated. Conception usually happened about two weeks after that date, so the baby’s own age (fetal age) is roughly 12 weeks. Week 14 runs from 14 weeks 0 days to 14 weeks 6 days; on the following day the pregnancy is 15 weeks.

The baby can make facial expressions such as squinting and frowning, and fine hair called lanugo begins to cover the body. The kidneys are producing urine, which becomes part of the amniotic fluid.
A common way to picture it: the baby is now about the size of a peach — roughly about 8.7 cm and about 43 g. These are averages; babies grow at different rates, and ultrasound measurements vary.
